Awards Won by CLOVER America

I am thrilled to announce that CLOVERAmerica has been awarded the Liebster Award. This is both surprising and humbling. When I began this blog not two months ago, I was concerned that my words might not be well received or thought too dark. I certainly never expected to achieve so many wonderful and loyal followers, especially so quickly. Instead, I found all of you and am so grateful for it. Thank you so very much, for the nomination. Your blog, your narrative and your posts are amazing. Being nominated, especially by somebody of your talent is… beyond words. THANK YOU!

So, what is it? The Liebster Award is community-based, and qualifying blogs must have fewer than 300 followers. It’s a great way to discover new blogs and bring them to the attention of your readership and the Blogosphere.

Once nominated, you answer 11 questions about yourself or your blog, then give 11 random facts about yourself. The next step is to nominate 11 more qualifying bloggers for the award and create 11 questions for them to answer. Then you must visit each blog you’ve nominated and inform him/her about the award.

So here are the 11 questions from, along with my answers:

1.  Are you a dog-, cat-, or fish-person? Dogs, all the way. Some dogs are amazing pets, but others are furry family members that can connect with their human almost as if they really are furry people. For those who disagree, I say only, you haven’t met the right dog. Yet.

2.  What’s the weirdest name you’ve ever gave a pet? First, the story behind the name – it’ll make me seem a little less insane. I rescued my fur-baby while the first season of Glee was on. She is a red golden retriever mix and while I pondered what to name her, she told me… kind of. She has red-ish blonde hair, massive eyes on a little face, is so sweet, intelligent and… weird. She is actually a germaphobe. It’s true. She demands to be wiped with doggy hygiene wipes every day or so, and when I first got her, I didn’t realize how bad she is with being dirty. I knew though, the moment she stepped in mud, held the paw up as she hopped across the yard to dunk it and wash it in her water bowl, that her name was meant to be… Emma Pillsbury.

3.  If you could live anywhere on earth, where would it be? Grand Tetons. Hands down. It’s beautiful, desolate and inspiring. Sounds like heaven.

4.  Which season do you like best and why? Autumn/Fall. It’s the only time in Vegas that the weather isn’t horrid. Spring gets entirely too hot for me, already into the hundreds. Summer is a joke; it’s the only place where you can go outside on a day when there is no weather and literally die. And though it’s a desert, the winters here do get frigid. So, autumn it is!

5.  Do you prefer shoes, boots, or walking barefoot? I’d say flip flops. Barefoot weather doesn’t happen here. If you tried, you’d burn the bottoms of your feet. (Seriously! I “bake” cookies in my car every summer).

6.  What’s the most romantic thing you ever did for someone or they ever did for you? We were engaged at the time and he surprised me with my dream home. My family is based in Vegas and I can’t leave them, especially the lil’ one. So, he brought everything else to me. It was up in the hills above Vegas with views of the city by night, the mountains by day, and far, far from everyone. The yard had cobblestone paths amid a veritable forest he’d had planted. He unveiled all of it to me as a wedding gift, plus the kicker: he’d had a perfect “guest house” built on our property for my family. It had it’s own drive, entrance, shared access to the yard and pool and was a full, beautiful home. He didn’t ask. We didn’t discuss it. He’s an amazing, amazing man, and he knew.

7.  What’s your favorite book? I can’t pick just one, can I? Um….. I’ll “say” it fast so it counts as one: Wuthering Heights, Like a Sister and Angela’s Ashes.

8.  If you had to give up one food that you really like, which one would it be? You can’t ask this of a fat girl. If there’s a food I really like, I can’t let it go.

9.   What currently-living person do you admire most and why? I’ve lost two of the three, sadly. They’re no longer with us, which leaves my dearest, dearest friend. She is so young and has had nothing but roadblocks thrown in her path, but she perseveres and overcomes every. last. one. Despite debilitating pain and personal suffering, she is never anything but sunshine. Her heart is pure gold. Her bravery is mind-blowing and her soul is the kindest, warmest I’ve ever known. I love her and though her desire to never burden anybody sometimes drives me crazy (because we love her and want to help), I am in awe of her resilience and strength.

10.  Can you sum up your character in three words or less? Strong-willed unintentional heroine, or in just one word: America (Note: This is for Harper Eckles, my fictional character, not my character)

11.  And just for fun: The New York Yankees were the first pro sports team to assign PERMANENT numbers to its team members‘ jerseys. How many retired numbers do the New York Yankees as of today? (Note: it will probably change before the end of the year!) – Well, I could look this up, but that would be cheating. I could ask my father or brother (die-hard Yankee fans, especially my brother… it borders on sickness.:) ) But that would be cheating too….. So, I’ll say this. The only number I cared about was Number 2. He gave me a reason to watch!

Moving on to 11 Random facts about me:

1.      In my adult life, a medical problem has caused me to develop a speech impediment, and I seriously struggle saying the most random words (like carport and roar). It’s hilarious!

2.      I love watching horribly bad shows and movies. Meteor anyone?

3.      I have an eight year old shark named Spazz, and when he accidently eats another fish, he panics and backs around the tank until he spits them out.

4.      My love of cars is unnerving to some. (Though if I were male, it’d probably be just fine)

5.      I’m terrified of spiders and cockroaches and spiders, and (whisper) spiders.

6.      My playlist jumps from classical to Rob Zombie to Ms. Mr., to Eminem, to Lady Gaga like it’s natural.

7.      I too am a bit of a germaphobe and cannot touch the condiments bottles (ketchup, mustard, mayo). I don’t know why, but it freaks me out.

8.      Even though I live in the desert, I love gardening.

9.      I design and sell jewelry for my store:

10.    My high school science teacher taught me how nastily dangerous the world is, and now, I can’t eat/drink anything that has been open more than two days, regardless of expiration date and proper storage.

11.    I can’t eat seafood, steak, hamburger…. anything where I can picture the poor animal killed for it. The result? No steak, but hot dogs, spam and other mystery meats are a-ok!

And these are the people I’m nominating, each of whom has inspired me in one way or another:
